Prerequisites

Basic knowledge and in relation to cases that occur in critical emergency / urgency of: anatomy, physiology,

pathology, general and specialized, emergency medicine. Knowledge and basic skills in the care of the

patient through the nursing process methodology, using problem-solving skills to identify

problems collaborative and Nanda nursing diagnosis and grading of NIC and NOC.



Development of the course

Lectures, presentation, analysis and practice on cases clinical care, practice dummy.



Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

Describe the concepts of: critical area, organizational aspect;

Describe the key elements on the current legislation in Italy relating to the Emergency Medical System;

Describe the organization of the system 118, the Department of Emergency and Intensive Care;

Describe the concepts and steps of the chain of emergency;

Describe and use the CABDE method, approach the person in critical condition;

Describe the priorities in critical care of the person;

Describe the main systems of monitoring of vital signs;

Planning patient care in critical condition;

Describe the characteristics of the communication / report an emergency with the patient, family and the

team;

Describe the nursing implications related to the removal and transplantation of organs and tissues.



Program

Definition of critical area, critical patient

Skills and responsibilities of the nurse in critical care organization .

National and regional legislation on the health care system emergency.

Organization of the 118 systems, emergency departments, first aid, triage and intensive care.

General principles of chain of emergency during the territorial and hospital.

ATLS: systems, principals and techniques of immobilisation / transportation of trauma.

BLSD: exercise with semi-automatic device.

ACLS: endotracheal intubation, tracheotomy, bronchial aspiration.

Priority assistance for the user who focuses in a coma for adverse clinical conditions, burns, polytrauma,

poisoning, acute respiratory failure, cardio-circulatory arrest, shock, pulmonary embolism, acute pulmonary

edema.

General concepts of monitoring respiratory, circulatory, neurological, renal, body temperature, pain.

(The invasive blood pressure, central venous pressure, Pulse oximetry, The capnometer, monitoring of urine

output, hemodynamics: The Swan Ganz catheter, the pressure in the pulmonary artery, IABP IABP, ega)

The need to communicate in critical situations, risk management drugs

Infections in ICU.

The brain death, management, education and assistance to potential donors.

Planning clinical-care user in invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, Cpap , multiple trauma, acute myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism.



Development of the examination

The examination consists of a written/oral test cases of assistance in the management of critically ill patients

in emergency / urgency within the inside the hospital.
