the course aims to provide basic knowledge in psychiatric nursing and to develop specialized skills related to nursing process in psychiatric nursing.

- Principles of psychiatric nursing (history and legislation):
- Development of psychiatric nursing: historical and legislative excursus, and development of psychiatric nurses’ role.
- Organization of Mental Health Departments.
- Conceptual models applied in psychiatric nursing.
- Nursing care for the most common mental health disorders :
- Classification of mental disorders and drug addiction
- Principles of pharmacology as they relate to psychiatric nursing practice.
- Psychiatric nurse’s role and competence in clinical and rehabilitation settings (focused on nurse’s educational and rehabilitative role).
- Nursing process and practice in mental health
- Nursing process in mental health – application of nursing care plans to the most common mental health disorders (schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, depression).
- Organizational models: teamwork and case management.
- emergencies in mental health nursing: management, coercion in psychiatric care (ethical and deontological issues); compulsory treatment in psychiatry.
