before starting this course the students must have: basic knowledge of biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, physiopathology and rudiments of pharmacology.
: the aim is to illustrate the main biological, pathophysiological, clinical characteristics and the classification of blood diseases an. Some information will be givenalso on basic concept of therapy.
This intensive course implies a total number of 24 hours of lectures along 3 months (the attendance compulsory is required), supported by power point presentations that will be available all the time for the students.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: once the course has been accomplished the student must know: the basic pathophysiology of: a- normal and pathological hemopoiesis, b-normal values of blood counts and the main coagulation tests; c-blood groups, incompatibilities and transfusional accidents; d-main clinical pictures and classification of anemia; e-the main clinical pictures of bone marrow failure; f-basic clinical-hematological aspects of acute leukemias and their main complications (including supportive care); g-lymphoma definition and general lymphoma classification; h-clinics and main complications of multiple myeloma; i-clinics and classification of thrombocytopenic syndromes.
pathophysiology of haemopoiesis, anemias (classification and main clinical pictures); acute, subacute and chronic myeloproliferative desorders (clinical pictures and classification including acute and chronic myeloid leukemia); lymphoproliferative desorders (acute lymphoblastic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, indolent and aggressive lymphomas, including Hodgking’s disease); monoclonal gammopathy (M-GUS), multiple myeloma , pathophysiology of coagulation, thrombocytopenia (classification and main clinical pictures); main congenital and acquired coagulopathies; blood groups and general aspect of transfusional therapy.
the examinasion is based on oral examination with general and specific questions about the program sissues
