Prerequisites
Appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Biochemistry
Development of the course
Provide students with knowledge about the functioning of cells and organs of the human body under normal conditions. Acquire skills on the function of various organs in integrating systems.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will understand the mechanisms underlying the functioning of the organs and possess knowledge about the dynamic integration of different organs under physiological conditions. Must be aware of the general mechanisms of functional control systems of the body under normal conditions.
Program
Heart: the origin and propagation of cardiac excitation; electrocardiogrphy; mechanical events of the cardiac cycle; heart sounds; cardiac output. Vascular system: Fundamentals of pressure; flow; resistance; arterial and venous blood pressure; measuring blood pressure; capillary circulation and exchange of nutrients between blood and tissues. General concepts of digestive system regulations. Control mechanisms of hormonal secretion. Muscle contraction. Exchange of air between the atmosphere and alveolar space; respiratory cycle; lung ventilation; the concept of intrapleural pressure; changes in lung volume during breathing; air distribution in the lungs. Exchange and transport of respiratory gases in the body: alveolar-capillary gas exchange; transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood; gas exchange between blood and tissues. Role of the skin in thermoregulation; protective function of the skin. Kidney: renal circulation; glomerular filtration; tubular secretion and absorption. Bioelectrical properties of the cell membrane; activity patterns nervous reflex arc.
