Learning outcomes

Aim of the course is let the student be aware of the historical facts that influenced the midwife’s professional growth, beyond the philosophy, theories, models and principles that lead the midwife practice with particular attention to the Midwifery Management Process.

Program

Introduction to the evolution in midwifery field: the midwife, its professional figure and education; the  meaning of this discipline in Italy and worldwide. The Midwifery as art, its social value and philosophy.

The course provides an overview on theories and models of this subject today, the Midwifery Partnership Model, theories on the growth and development in this area.

The Midwifery management process, through the inductive-deductive scientific method, the problem solving in the midwife day life and its possible application, will be also investigated. 

Further, the course focuses on planning, handling and evaluation of the assistance provided by a midwife, the midwifery diagnosis and its process.
