Students should have an adequate knowledge of systematic pathology, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging and pathology
Development of the course
This course intends to provide the students with the fundamentals for the identification of the most important problems of the developing age, with particular reference to the most frequent diseases and to the Nutrition and Auxology principles
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, each student should be able to assess the health status of the child and to identify those pathological conditions that require hospital treatment and those that require home therapy
Program
The course objectives are to: recognize the factors that contribute to the onset of obesity or growth deficit; know the methods to carry out the newborn physical examination; do develop effective and empathic communication skills to approach and communicate with the child and his/her family; distinguish the appropriate use of drugs and to be able to determine when it is not necessary to use them; recognize abnormal growth that require further investigation; identify factors of the intrauterine life that may influence the fetal growth; understand that how some aspects of development are important in clinical practice; identify early signs of mental retardation and cerebral palsy; identify behavioral and psychosocial problems by medical anamnesis and physical examination; make an early detection of surgical diseases
