Good knowledge in Biochemistry.

Development of the course
The aim of the course is to provide students on  the degree course in Medicine and Surgery with a basic knowledge of laboratory tests for use in diagnosis.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will know the fundamentals of the principal methods used in laboratory diagnosis. The student will also be able to interpret the meaning of the analytical data of the most common laboratory tests



Program

Introduction to Clinical Biochemistry.

The utility of laboratory tests in clinical medicine.

Enzymes as clinical biomarkers.

Biochemical tests of renal function.

Urinalysis.

Laboratory tests for diabetes.

Lipoprotein metabolism and dyslipidemias.

Laboratory assessment of water, sodium and potassium.

Laboratory assessment of hydrogen ion status.

Laboratory tests in pregnancy.

Newborn  screening  tests.



Development of the examination
Oral exam on the course subjects.
