Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of chemistry and inorganic chemistry

Development of the course
The course provides classical basic knowledge of organic chemistry  addressed towards the learning of basic biochemistry. The aim is to use organic chemistry as an introduction to biochemistry and to provide the basis required for the comprehension of biochemical mechanisms that will be discussed in further courses.

Learning outcomes

Once finalized to attend the course, every student should be able:

·         To describe organic compounds, their properties and reactions. To be able to identify the structure of the compound on the basis of the corresponding IUPAC definition or, conversely, to name a given compound using IUPAC nomenclature.

·         To describe the structure, properties and functions of aminoacids, carbohydrates, lipide and nucleotides.

·         To describe the role of proteins,  membranes, stored and circulating lipids, glycogen and nucleic acids in physiological situations or some pathological ones.
